The right plan starts with a facial assessment. Your doctor reviews your concerns, facial proportions, treatment history, medical background and goals before recommending whether filler is suitable and where it may be placed.
There is no fixed amount for everyone. The amount depends on the treatment area, facial anatomy, degree of volume loss, the filler selected and the result you are trying to achieve.
Discomfort varies by treatment area and individual sensitivity. JUVÉDERM® formulations may contain lidocaine to help reduce injection discomfort, and additional numbing measures may also be used when appropriate.
The injection portion of a JUVÉDERM® treatment can take roughly 15–60 minutes depending on the areas treated. Your consultation, facial assessment and treatment planning will add additional time.
Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising can occur around the injection sites. The treated area may look slightly fuller at first because of both filler placement and initial swelling.
Downtime is usually limited, but recovery varies by treatment area and individual response. Your doctor will advise you about activity, pressure on the treated area and other aftercare based on your treatment plan.
Common temporary effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, pain, firmness, bruising, itching or small lumps around the injection area. Rare but serious complications can occur if filler unintentionally enters a blood vessel, so treatment should be performed by a properly trained medical professional who can recognise and manage complications.
JUVÉDERM® should not be used in people with certain severe allergy histories or known allergy to specific product components such as lidocaine. Treatment should also be postponed if there is an active infection, rash, cyst or other inflammatory skin problem in the injection area. Your doctor will review your medical history and medications before treatment.
Longevity depends on the specific JUVÉDERM® product, treatment area, amount used and individual factors. Official JUVÉDERM® information notes that results can last about one to two years with optimal treatment depending on the product and area.
JUVÉDERM® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler, and hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and may be used by doctors in selected situations. However, the manufacturer notes that the effectiveness of removing any dermal filler has not been formally studied, so any correction or management should be assessed by a qualified medical professional.
